After Judy Chicago
Creative Director, Host & Singer Morna Burdon
As part of the Audacious Women Festival and in the run up to International Women’s Day 2019 Morna Burdon created a 40th anniversary live theatre celebration of The Dinner Party – an iconic exhibition conceived by artist Judy Chicago commemorating over 1000 women hidden from history.
This concept is now available for hire and adaptation to a range of settings and circumstances. As part of the event the guests ( audience) are invited to meet, greet and eat at a large triangular dining table mimicking the original artwork and decorated with place settings honouring women from that piece. There is also an invitation to wear costume and come as an audacious or inspirational woman of choice. ( See slidehow !) If interested in discussing how this might be adapted for your venue or setting, please get in touch. The event includes Morna hosting, singing, telling stories associated with the original artwork and behind some of her songs . She also introduces guest performers who, on this occasion , were Americana singer/songwriter Martha L Healy & rapper/singer/songwriter Nnena McKenzie. The audience chat with each other, mingle with the performers, exchange stories about the women on their place settings or can take photos of other audience members whose costumes take their fancy. “ A beautiful, relaxed, celebratory evening” “ A unique idea with such talented women” “ I am sure if Judy Chicago had been in Edinburgh she would have loved it” Ticket prices may vary. |
