BONNIE FECHTERS – SONGS AND STORIES OF HOPE AND RESISTANCE
A ONE WOMAN SHOW ABOUT WOMEN OF COURAGE
On Saturday 15 September, Morna Burdon brings her show Bonnie Fechters : Songs & Stories of Hope & Resistance to Eastgate Theatre and Arts Centre Peebles to honour a host of women whose courage, inventiveness and human spirit have changed our lives forever….
In 50 minutes, performer, writer and director Morna Burdon takes the audience on a journey of celebration and inspiration as she weaves a tapestry of songs and stories shedding light on remarkable women whose stories and achievements have so often remained hidden and unsung.
We discover the names of Scottish women targeted as witches, hear tales of the girls who survived the Magdalene institution for ‘fallen women’; explore the 1976 ‘Strikers in Saris’ protest and many more as the show journeys from Scotland to Vietnam, from civil rights activists to late 19th century Syrian refugees.
We hear of the Scottish girl piper who supported the Suffragettes and the modern photographer who rode horseback in Mongolia with her 6-year-old daughter to record the lives of women there.
After the performance, there will be an opportunity for audience members to stay behind and share stories of women they know and admire or who have inspired them…….
