Morna's most recent work is focused on reviving her love of singing and performing through researching women throughout Scotland and abroad hidden from history, and singing songs and telling stories about their lives. These stories are told in her touring show “Bonnie Fechters” which is currently touring and where one of the delights in her work – as well as singing and performing - is to hear audience members telling their stories of loved ones or themselves whose stories too have been hidden. It is a joyful experience to be part of bringing these stories so proudly to light.

Her forthcoming show “Gie’s Peace” about women and peace is due to premiere at the Scottish Storytelling Centre for the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Morna has been privileged to work with people from many countries including Ghana, Liberia, Itay, Poland, Denmark, Canada, France and to have collaborated with many theatres and agencies including the Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh, Dundee Rep.; Perth Theatre/Horsecross ; Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh; Royal Court, London; Edinburgh’s International Dance Base ; Lung Ha and many more.

​She has worked in many educational establishments and was Guest Lecturer at the Paolo Grassi Drama School, Italy and Seminar Leader to Post Graduate students at MilanUniversity Theatre Studies Dept on Translations and Crossing Borders in Text with Prof. Maggie Rose. as part of a Residency with Teatro Olmetto Milan, researching use of Commedia Dell Arte within a contemporary play.


For 10 years she worked at the ground-breaking Theatre Workshop in Edinburgh as a Director, Producer, Writer, Performer and Project Leader on a range of projects and productions aimed at including and empowering sections of the community often excluded or alienated from mainstream theatre.
She was also Project Director responsible for the artistic and educational development of the highly successful 10 year project at Theatre Workshop taking new writing and interactive and immersive professional theatre into schools and communities from Shetland to Dumfries where the audience were transformed from passive receptors into active protagonists. This project reached over 20,000 young people throughout Scotland. Themes included Gender, Racism, One World Issues, Relationships, Poverty; Global Warming; Ageism and the techniques were those of empowerment and engagement in theatre and in life.

Projects have included installations, musical theatre, promenade, interactive, physical theatre, text-based, outdoor theatre, site-specific , cross media and cabaret and liaising and venues have included theatres, festivals ; Scottish Islands; community centres & village halls, travellers centre; marquees, a restaurant, care homes, hospitals, museums, libraries, a secure unit, a zoo, a railway station and the street.

​For 3 years, Morna was also a member of the Edinburgh-based Witch Theatre – a women’s company dedicated to new writing and – for its time – new & challenging issues for the stage Productions included:Tae Fetch her Hame Again on the East Lothian witch killings; S.W.A.L.K. – about lesbian love; Out of Boundaries – about the many ways in which women have been imprisoned and the many ways in which they have broken out.


Over a period of several years Morna was also a performer with Jonathan Kay’s Festival of Fools - a troupe of international trapeze artists, actors, musicians, acrobats and dancers. experimenting with innovative, exciting and humane approaches to theatre. Venues included

Hay-On-Wye, Bath & Glastonbury Festivals, the street, and Hazelwood House, Devon ( a retreat for war survivors)

Morna is also a published writer of poetry and short stories and was Judge of Student Theatre Around Glasgow ( 4 years) with representatives from the National Theatre of Scotland, Traverse, Conservatoire and Bedlam Theatre.
Morna is currently Chair, East of Scotland, Equity Committee. Scottish Committee Member, Equity; was the Convenor of the Mental Health Sub Committee, Equity (East of Scotland) and is the author of Sometimes We Are Treated Quite Well – A Report on Stress, Distress & Mental Health in the Entertainment Industry.

​For the future, I want to perform, act, sing, collaborate, write. I have recently hosted a women’s open mike night, loved it and would like to do more.


There is my show Bonnie Fechters which I want to continue touring (internationally too) – as well as adapting and tailoring the work for a range of groups and communities to help them celebrate their own. Gie’s Peace, too.
